R-ZONE - Amikacin 500mg. Inj.

Composition
Each vial contains: Amikacin 500mg. Inj.

Product Description
Amikacin Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used to treat different types of bacterial infections.

Mechanism of Action
Amikacin works by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of mRNA and leaving the bacterium unable to synthesize proteins vital to its growth.

Pharmaco Kinetics
Protein binding - 0-11% ; Half life - 2-3 hours ; Excretion - Renal.

Indications
Amikacin is most often used for treating severe, hospital-acquired infections with multidrug resistant Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter, and Enterobacter.

Dosage
Amikacin may be administered once or twice a day but must be given by the intravenous or intramuscular route and this tends to be painful. There is no oral form available. Dosage must be adjusted in people with kidney failure.

Contra Indication
A history of hypersensitivity to amikacin is a contraindication for its use. A history of hypersensitivity or serious toxic reactions to aminoglycosides may contraindicate the use of any other aminoglycoside because of the known cross-sensitivities of patients to drugs in this class.

Special Precautions
R Zone injection is potentially nephrotoxic, ototoxic and neurotoxic. The concurrent or serial use of other ototoxic or nephrotoxic agents should be avoided either systemically or topically because of the potential for additive effects.

Drug Interactions

Adverse Effects
Side effects of amikacin are similar to other aminoglycosides. Kidney damage and hearing loss are the most important effects. Because of this potential, blood levels of the drug and markers of kidney function (creatinine) may be monitored.

Packing
A vial of 2 ml.
