Composition Each Inj. Contains: Piperacillin 4gm. & Tazobactum 500mg. Inj. Product Description Piperacillin Piperacillin is an extended spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic of the ureidopenicillin class. It is normally used together with a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Tazobactum is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is normally used with an extended spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic of the ureidopenicillin class. Mechanism of Action The combination has activity against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens and anaerobes, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Pharmaco Kinetics Piperacillin Bioavailability - not absorbed orally; Metabolism - largely not metabolised; Half life - 36–72 minutes; Excretion - 20% in bile, 80% unchanged in urine |
Indications Its main uses are in intensive care medicine (pneumonia, peritonitis), some diabetes-related foot infections and empirical therapy in febrile neutropenia (e.g. after chemotherapy). Dosage Piperacillin is not absorbed orally, and must therefore be given by intravenous or intramuscular injection. Contra Indication Contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to any of the penicillins, cephalosporins, or ß-lactamase inhibitors Special Precautions Careful inquiry should be made concerning previous hypersensitivity reaction, as serious and occasionally fatal anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions (including shock) have been reported in patients receiving therapy with penicillins. Drug Interactions It is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to any of the penicillins, cephalosporins, or ß-lactamase inhibitors. Adverse Effects Skin rash and pruritus.
