However, it produces results much more slowly and is often used for long-term treatment of chronic constipation.It is broken down into mild acids in the colon (the end part of the intestinal tract). Indications In frequent bowel movements. Dosage Usual dose is 15 to 60 mL daily as required. Contra Indication Diarrhea Special Precautions Chronulac contains galactose, a simple sugar. In patients with low-galactose diet, lactulose should be avoided. Overdose Symptoms and Treatment: Diarrhea and abdominal cramps may be controlled by a reduction of the dosage. Adverse Effects Side effects like Diarrhea, gas (temporary, at the beginning of use), intestinal cramps (temporary, at the beginning of use), nausea, potassium and fluid loss, vomiting may occur, but is not neccessary.
